19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
1. Learning Contentment
It doesn't matter how much you do or don't have. You need to be content with what you have.
Philippians 4:11
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Paul chose to be content even though he was on house arrest at the time he wrote that.
1 Timothy 6:6-10
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
A few ways to work on being content:
- Spend time with God
- Have a heart of thankfulness
- Get rid of Comparison and competition

We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.
2. Learning Trust
Matthew 6:25-33
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
If you seek first the kingdom, everything else falls into place?. It might not look exactly like you envisioned - it probably looks a lot more like Jesus.
God knows what we need better than we do. We need to trust that He cares about us and will take care of us.
Proverbs 22:7
The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.
On of the greatest ways we show that we don't trust God is by going into debt. Swiping a credit card is not God providing for you, its Mastercard or Visa providing for you. The "happiness" that debt brings is a lie.
Until you get out of debt and refuse to go into it, you won't see as many miracles of God taking care of you. We are robbing God of His ability to show off because God is not our supply, Visa is.
3. Learning Generosity
The money in our bank accounts belongs to God, not us.
Psalm 24:1
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;
