Singleness
Singleness is a GIFT! If you are single, you are at a point in your life right now, where you have the largest amount of time and ability for missions that you will ever have in your life.
1 Corinthians 7:8
8 Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do.
Before Dating
- Marriage is for 1 man and 1 woman only
- Marriage is for life
- Romantic relationships are not just for fun
- Romantic relationships should be between 2 Christians
2 Corinthians 6:14
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
- God should be at the center of our romantic relationships
Our basis’ for what is right and wrong in a relationship CAN NOT be based on public opinion. If you don’t plant the boundaries on scripture, the boundaries will keep moving.
Relationships are not just for fun, they are about increasing the ability that you have alone for building the Kingdom of God.
Hebrews 10:24
24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds
The most missional decision you will make in you life after deciding to give your life to Jesus, is deciding to who marry: who will be your partner in missions for the rest of your life!
As You Start Dating
DON'T ISOLATE
The dangerous thing about isolating when dating (or married) is that you begin to become your own echo chamber. We NEED each other in community, and your significant other CANNOT be your only sounding board for wisdom and discernment.
Proverbs 18:1 CSB
One who isolates himself pursues selfish desires; he rebels against all sound wisdom.
DON'T GO TOO FAST
Speed turns into compromising your moral position, and falling into sin - usually sexual sin. But the other thing,
is that when you go too fast, you skip some of the building blocks of a good relationship.
- Emotional
- Physical
- Spiritual
- Commitment
- Time Together
When you go too fast, what usually happens is that the emotional and the physical shoot up, the time together gets to an unhealthy level, and there is no commitment or spiritual connection to back it up.
DON'T HAVE AN UNBIBLICAL LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE
Ephesians 5:22-23
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
Ephesians 5:25-26a
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy
MAKE SURE YOU ARE BEING MISSIONAL
It takes intentionality to be missional. It’s not just going to happen.
Your relationship is not the main goal here… the main goal is to be KINGDOM BUILDING FAMILIES. So what are you doing to intentionally build towards that. The greatest thing you can do for missions in your entire life is choosing the right person to do missions with for the rest of your life.
